Hello everyone!

If you missed our insightful webinar on the common misconceptions about the continuum of services required under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), don’t worry! We have put together a concise blog post to get you up to speed, and you can also watch the on-demand webinar here.

In the webinar, we delved into four key considerations for students with disabilities in school settings and examined the different ways they can be supported within general education classrooms, using reading as an example content area. We also outlined the three main types of support settings for students with special education needs:

General education with in-class support: This support encompasses accommodations, IEP goals, and additional in-class assistance from qualified personnel.

Resource classes: Tailored for special education students, these classes provide a slower pace, smaller teacher-to-student ratio, and modified work to meet learning expectations.

Self-contained settings: These highly structured environments cater to specific populations of special education students, such as those with autism or intellectual disabilities.

Furthermore, we touched on alternative settings like life skills, adaptive behavior units, social-emotional units, sensory units, out-of-district placement, and homebound instruction. These options underscore the importance of parents having accurate information to make informed decisions about their child’s education.
